Best Magnetic Charging Cable

The Top 10

1. NetDot 3-pack 2nd Generation

The problem with reviewing items that are very specific in terms of their purpose is that there is not always a lot to say about them. So, on that note, please forgive us for any repetition in these descriptions! This is a pack of 3 magnetic charging cables from NetDot, who offer a wide variety of products of this type. The cable has an LED indicator to show when it is charging, and is 1.5m long.

This one is the 2nd generation of the design from NetDot – in the world of digital accessories it is not unusual to see new updates on a regular basis and makes a claim to be the ‘best in the market’. It supports USB 2.0 charging, and is compatible with Android systems. The charger connector will not fit in an iPhone. It’s nicely made, you get three for the money, and while customer reviews are generally good, there are some that draw attention to the magnets being quite weak.

Pros
  • 3-pack
  • Strong cable
  • USB 2.0
  • Android compatible
  • LED indicator
Cons
  • Not iPhone compatible
  • Concerns about magnet strength

2. Lively Life USB Type C Charger

This twin-pack of charging cables comes from Lively Life, and it fits the bill in all the right ways. Once again, however, it does not claim to be useable on iPhone products, so beware if you are an Apple product user. The strong cable is fitted with a LED indicator to show when charging is taking place, and is 1m long, which is shorter than some but may be sufficient.

What is curious about this one is that while you get two cables with the pack, they only supply one connector – that’s the magnetic part that fits into the charging port of your home. We can’t get our heads around why they have chosen to do this, as it makes little sense. The cable is available in a series of metallic colours and looks very nice, and it works, but when we began to read customer reviews we found many poor reports on quality with comments such as ‘now in bits’, ‘works for a while’ and so on. Clearly, as there are other satisfied customers, there’s a quality control problem with this cable.

Pros
  • Twin pack
  • Cheap
  • Colour choice
Cons
  • Only one connector for two cables
  • Not iPhone compatible
  • Quality control concerns from customers

3. Coching 3-in-1 Magnetic Charger

We can’t help feeling that the makers of the above two products are missing a trick in not including a connector – or adapter or whatever it should be called – that fits an iPhone port. Surely, by doing so, they would be reaching a wider range of buyers? Coching has clearly had the same thought. While there is just a single cable in this package – it’s a strong one, with USB 2.0 connectivity, and the usual fast charging capability – they include connectors for iPhone, and for both Micro-USB and USB Type-C ports.

This means that with this cable, you should be able to charge any modern smartphone, as well as your tablet and even a laptop. The package includes a neat cable holder and carry bag, too, which is a handy touch. Customer reviews are generally favourable, although there are a few comments about one of the connectors not working properly and it being rather slow.

Pros
  • 3 connectors for all devices
  • USB 2.0
  • Cable holder
  • Carry bag
  • Good price
Cons
  • Only 1metre
  • Single cable
  • Concerns about slow charging

4. UGI 90-degree L-shape Cable

This unusual design is interesting, but we’re not sure the move away from a standard ‘flat’ head is necessary. Undoubtedly high quality, this one comes with a round head onto which the connector fits at 90-degrees. We are not really sure why it is designed this way. The makers claim it stops it from bending which gives the cable a longer life, but we are not too sure it will do so.

Curiously, this is a 3-pack of cables, each of which is a different length. That could be useful of you want one in the car, at the desk and at home. However, the makers state that due to the design it can’t be used for data transfer (another use of these cables) which is a drawback. It comes with connectors for all 3 USB connections as listed above, but here we must insert a ‘beware’. When we looked at customer reviews, we found a large number warning us off the product as it ‘causes phones to overheat’ and, simply, ‘doesn’t work’. Others, however, marked it favourably.

Pros
  • Unusual design
  • Three cables supplied
  • Three different connectors
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Can’t be used for data transfer
  • Concerns about quality

5. Lively Life Magnetic USB Charger

There is a theme emerging with magnetic cables, and it’s that customer reviews are invariably mixed. This one, our second pick from Lively Life, has almost 150 reviews. They range from ‘excellent’ and ‘great idea’ to ‘poor’ and ‘disappointing’. We can only assume that there are – once again – quality control problems, or that users of devices such as this are very demanding.

This one is a one-metre cable – just the one in the pack – that comes with connectors for MicroUSB, Lightning and also USB-C. It should therefore be compatible with both iPhone and Android devices, although some customers have said it does not work well with some Apple products. Nevertheless, it’s not expensive, it’s suitable for data transfer, and some people have awarded it 5-stars.

Pros
  • 3 connectors
  • Braided cable
  • 1-metre
  • Compatible with all devices
Cons
  • Just one cable
  • Some complaints about quality

6. Hemamba 3-in-1 Cable

This cable is another that makes some impressive claims – ‘the world’s strongest USB cable’ for example – and on the face of it, the specification does promise impressive performance. For start, this is a 3A rated cable, which should mean it charges and transfers quicker than the usual 2A and 2.4A cables we have reviewed here, and it is designed to be tangle-free and has a durable multi-core interior.

As we think they all should, this cable is supplied with iPhone, MicroUSB and USB-C connectors, so should be compatible with all devices, no matter the manufacturer. It is 1-metre long although a 2-metre version is available at a little extra cost, and it comes with a nice storage bag for the tips and cable. As with most of these devices, there is a mix of customer satisfaction ranging from ‘excellent device’ to ‘poor fit, waste of money’ with the former being the prevailing opinion. It’s not the cheapest, but we’re talking a couple of quid more than some of the others.

Pros
  • 3 connectors
  • 3A speed for faster charging
  • Can be used for data
  • 2-metre version available
  • Nice carry bag
Cons
  • Not the cheapest
  • Some complaints about poor performance
  • Only one cable

7. UGI 90-degree Right Angle

We have already reviewed one item from UGI, and believe this to be the same one but in silver rather than blue.

That’s our list of 10 magnetic chargers for you, so is there one for you? Before we give you our verdict, let’s have a reminder of a few factors you need to consider before you buy one of these.

Important Factors to Consider

These magnetic chargers are undoubtedly a good idea, and as a relatively new product, we get the impression some the featured designs are undergoing teething problems. All of them receive some good reviews and some very poor – that is the norm with most products – and this serves to tell us what the main problem areas are with these cables. That helps us to provide you with the following list of factors to think about:

Connectors – does the cable come with all three connection adapters? Or does it just come with one type? This is a very important point if you are to get the right one.

Speed – what charging speed does the cable provide? Most are 2A or 2.4A, with just one on our list being 3A, and the fastest.

Quality – among the major complaints from customers – and this applies across the board on our list – are quality issues. These range from slow performance, to poor products that break easily, to badly fitting connectors and so on. We strongly advise you check customer reviews before you make a choice.

Package – what comes with the cable? Do you get one cable, or two or three? Do you get a bag with it? There are a number of different choices on our list so check them out carefully.

Length – the length the cable you require depends upon where you are using it, and when. Standard length is 1-metre, but there are others that are longer.

If you are concerned about colour there are choices too, and the price range of these devices is so small that price likely will not be a factor. So, now that we’ve had a recap, is there one here for you? We think there is a clear stand-out, so let’s have a big reveal!

Magnetic Charging Cables

We are now firmly into the age of the smartphone. Indeed, much of our lives seems to be governed by these very capable little devices. Wherever you are – on the street, on a bus or train, in a pub, café or even at home – glance around and you’ll be sure to see people almost permanently glued to their smartphones. It is said that in the younger age groups especially, 95% of UK residents own and use a smartphone. Given the smartphone is not even 30 years old, that’s a quite amazing statistic.

Whether you own an iPhone, Samsung, or any other brand, there is one constant problem that we all suffer from: battery life. Manufacturers will boast of amazing battery life, but we all know that when we use the functions we want to use – accessing the internet, streaming movies and music and even making calls – the battery indicator very soon becomes empty, as does the battery itself!

So, we have to resort to plugging the phone in to charge when we’re asleep, or at work, or whenever convenient. If you’ve upgraded your phone a few times, you probably have a tangle of old charging cables, and it can be annoying when you accidentally pick up your old Android charger when you meant to take your iPhone cable. That’s why we’re going to tell you about a device that overcomes this problem – the magnetic charging cable. Let’s have a look at what it’s all about, and why you need one.

What is a Magnetic Charging Cable?

The basic premise is this: instead of physically plugging your charging cable into the slot in the phone, you get a small adapter that you can leave in there. When you place the tip of your charging cable close to it, the magnetic element pulls it in, so no more messing around with the wrong tip to put into the slot. Also, one major benefit of using this type of cable is that it does away with the common problem of dust and debris building up in your charging port.

These cables tend to be more powerful than standard issue cables, are made to last, and will charge your phone in the quickest possible time. Of course, they can also be used for tablets, and they are a very useful item to invest in. So, without any further hesitation, let’s have a look at the top 10 magnetic charging cables you can buy right now.

Our Choice

The cable we would recommend you check out more carefully is the Hemamba 3-in-1 Cable. Our reasons are as follows: it is very fast as it is rated 3A, it comes with all three connectors and a bag for them and – despite some poor reviews – it rates very highly on average with users. You can also pay a little more and buy a 2-metre version if you wish.

That’s our review of magnetic chargers for you, and we hope we’ve helped you further your knowledge of these clever devices, and find the one that is right for you
